CHAPTER 1

1 Paul, an apostle (not from men nor through man but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead),

   (사람들에게서 난 것도 아니고 사람으로 말미암아 된 것도 아니며, 오직 예수 그리스도와 그분을 죽은 사람들 가운데서 살리신 하나님 아버지로 말미암아) 사도가 된 나 바울과

2 And all the brothers who are with me, to the churches of Galatia:

   나와 함께 있는 모든 형제가 갈라디아의 교회들에게 편지합니다.

3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,

   하나님 우리 아버지와 주 예수 그리스도에게서 오는 은혜와 평안이 여러분에게 있기를 바랍니다.

4 Who gave Himself for our sins that He might rescue us out of the present evil age according to the will of our God and Father,

   예수 그리스도께서 우리 하나님, 곧 우리 아버지의 뜻을 따라 악한 이 시대에서 우리를 건져 내시려고, 우리의 죄들 때문에 자신을 내주셨습니다.

5 To whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

   영광이 그분께 영원무궁히 있으시기를 바랍니다. 아멘.

6 I marvel that you are so quickly removing from Him who has called you in the grace of Christ to a different gospel,

   나는 여러분이 그리스도의 은혜 안에서 여러분을 부르신 그분을 그렇게 빨리 떠나서, 다른 복음을 따르는 것을 이상하게 여깁니다.

7 Which is not another gospel, only there are some who trouble you and desire to pervert the gospel of Christ.

   그 다른 복음은 사실 복음이 아닙니다. 다만 어떤 사람들이 여러분을 혼란시켜서 그리스도의 복음을 변질시키려는 것입니다.

8 But if even we or an angel out of heaven should announce to you a gospel beyond that which we have announced to you, let him be accursed.

   심지어 우리 자신이나 하늘에서 온 천사일지라도, 우리가 여러분에게 전한 복음 외에 다른 복음을 전한다면, 저주를 받을 것입니다.

9 As we have said before, now also I say again, If anyone announces to you a gospel beyond that which you have received, let him be accursed.

   우리가 전에 말한 적이 있지만, 내가 지금 다시 말합니다. 누구든지 여러분이 받은 복음 외에 다른 복음을 전한다면, 저주를 받을 것입니다.

10 For am I now trying to win the assent of men or of God? Or am I seeking to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a slave of Christ.

   내가 지금 사람들의 마음을 얻으려는 것이겠습니까, 아니면 하나님의 마음을 얻으려는 것이겠습니까? 혹은 내가 사람들을 기쁘게 하려는 것이겠습니까? 내가 지금까지 사람들을 기쁘게 하려 했다면, 나는 그리스도의 노예가 아닙니다.

11 For I make known to you, brothers, concerning the gospel announced by me, that it is not according to man.

   형제님들, 내가 여러분에게 알려 드리는데, 내가 전한 복음은 사람에게서 비롯된 것이 아닙니다.

12 For neither did I receive it from man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation by Jesus Christ.

   왜냐하면 그 복음은 내가 사람에게서 받은 것도 아니고 배운 것도 아니며, 오직 예수 그리스도께서 계시하신 것을 통하여 받은 것이기 때문입니다.

13 For you have heard of my manner of life formerly in Judaism, that I persecuted the church of God excessively and ravaged it. and shows what he was before his calling.

   여러분은 전에 내가 유대교에 있을 때 행한 일에 대하여 들었을 것입니다. 나는 하나님의 교회를 몹시 박해하였으며, 아주 없애 버리려고까지 하였습니다.

14 And I advanced in Judaism beyond many contemporaries in my race, being more abundantly a zealot for the traditions of my fathers.

   또한 나는 유대교 안에서 내 동족 중 많은 동년배들보다 앞서 가고 있었으며, 내 조상의 전통에 대하여 훨씬 더 열성적이었습니다.

15 But when it pleased God, who set me apart from my mother's womb and called me through His grace,

   그러나 나를 모태에서부터 따로 분별하시고 그분의 은혜로 나를 부르신 하나님께서

16 To reveal His Son in me that I might announce Him as the gospel among the Gentiles, immediately I did not confer with flesh and blood, and what he did immediately after it

   내가 그분의 아들을 이방인들에게 복음으로 전파하도록 하시려고, 그분의 아들을 내 안에 계시하시기를 기뻐하실 때에, 나는 즉시 어떤 사람과도 의논하지 않았고,

17 Neither did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me, but I went away to Arabia and again returned to Damascus.

   또 나보다 먼저 사도 된 사람들을 만나려고 예루살렘으로 올라가지도 않았으며, 오히려 아라비아로 갔다가 다시 다마스쿠스로 돌아왔습니다.

18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas, and I remained with him fifteen days.

   그러고 나서 삼 년 뒤에 내가 게바를 방문하려고 예루살렘에 올라가서 그와 함께 십오 일 동안 머물렀으나,

19 But I saw none of the other apostles except James, the brother of the Lord.

   주님의 동생 야고보 외에 다른 사도들은 아무도 만나 보지 못하였습니다.

20 Now concerning the things which I am writing to you, behold, before God, I am not lying.

   지금 내가 여러분에게 쓰고 있는 이것은 거짓말이 아닙니다. 보십시오, 내가 하나님 앞에서 말하고 있습니다.

21 Then I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia.

   그 후에 나는 시리아와 길리기아 지역에 갔었습니다.

22 Yet I was still unknown by face to the churches of Judea, which are in Christ.

   그때 그리스도 안에 있는 유대 지역의 교회들은 나를 얼굴로는 알지 못했습니다.

23 But they only heard this: He who was formerly persecuting us is now announcing as the gospel the faith which formerly he ravaged.

   그러나 그들은 다만 “이전에 우리를 박해하던 사람이 이전에 아주 없애 버리려 했던 그 믿음을 지금은 복음으로 전하고 있습니다.”라는 말만 듣고서도,

24 And they glorified God because of me.

   나로 말미암아 하나님께 영광을 돌렸습니다.
